Margaret McCaffrey ’19 was a dominant runner in both cross country and women's track and field during her career as an Anchorwoman. She helped lead Rhode Island College to a pair of Little East Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships and one indoor title, received the Helen M. Murphy Award and was named to RIC's 100th Anniverary Women's Track and Field Team.

The East Greenwich, R.I. native earned a bachelor’s degree in graphic design with a minor in communications from Rhode Island College in 2019 as well as a master’s degree in education.

Outdoor Track and Field
As a senior in 2018-19, McCaffrey finished fourth in the 800m (2:13.21) at the MIT Final Qualifier on May 16. McCaffrey earned All-New England honors with a sixth place finish in the 800m (2:13.95) at the  N.E. Div. III Championship on May 4. She earned N.E. Alliance honors with first place finishes in both the 800m (2:24.28) and the 1,500m (4:54.92) at the N.E. Alliance Championship on April 27. McCaffrey won the 800m (2:16.83) at the Sean Collier Invitational on April 20. McCaffrey placed second in the 3,000m steeplechase (11:43.39) and fifth in the 400m (1:00.93) at the SNHU on April 13. She finished first and established a new program record in the 3,000m steeplechase (11:53.66) at the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational on April 6. McCaffrey finished second (4:03.02) in the 4x400m relay and eighth in the 1,500m (4:48.68) at the Bryant Black & Gold Invitational on March 30. McCaffrey placed fourth in the 800m (2:16.64) at the USF Bulls Invitational on March 23.

As a junior in 2018, McCaffrey finished 23rd in the 800m (2:20.34) at the N.E. Championship on May 5. McCaffrey won a pair of LEC Championships at the Alliance Championship on April 28. She finished second in the Alliance and first in the LEC in both the 800m (2:23.86) and the 3,000m steeplechase (11:55.77). McCaffrey also placed seventh in the 4x400m relay (10:37.03). She finished sixth in the 800m (2:19.14) at the Sean Collier Invitational on April 21. McCaffrey finished 10th in both the 400m hurdles (1:12.27) and 3,000m steeplechase (11:57.80) at the Silfen Invitational on April 14. She finished second in the 800m (2:24.60) at the Yellow Jacket Invitational on April 7. She finished third in the 3,000m steeplechase (11:55.10) at the Black and Gold Invitational on March 31.

As a sophomore in 2017, McCaffrey earned N.E. Alliance honors and was the Little East Champion with a first place finish in the 3,000m steeplechase (12:23.60) at the Alliance Championship on April 29. She also finished 22nd in the 800m (2:34.68). McCaffrey placed fifth in the 800m (2:24.24) at the Sean Collier Invitational on April 22. She placed 12th in the 3,000m steeplechase (13:01.11) and 41st in the 800m (2:32.64) at the Silfen Invitational on April 15. McCaffrey placed ninth in the 800m (2:27.53) at the Yellow Jacket Invitational on April 8.

Indoor Track and Field
As a senior in 2018-19, McCaffrey finished 17th in the preliminaries of the 800m (2:18.48) at NCAA Div. III Women’s Indoor Track & Field National Championship on March 8-9. She placed third in the 800m (2:15.66) at the Tufts National Qualifying Meet on March 2. She finished 21st in the 800m (2:16.96) at the B.U. Last Chance Meet on Feb. 24. McCaffrey finished 12th in the 800m (2:21.93) at the N.E. Div. III Championship at Bowdoin on Feb. 22-23. She earned N.E. Alliance honors in two events at the Alliance Championship on Feb. 16. McCaffrey placed first in the 800m (2:24.54), third in the mile (5:18.90) and fifth in the 4x800m relay (10:45.30).
 
McCaffrey finished 68th in the 800m (2:16.74) at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Feb. 8-9. She finished 11th in the 800m (2:19.72) at the NEICAAA Championship on Feb. 2. McCaffrey finished fourth in the 600m (1:39.97) at the Smith Pioneer Invitational on Jan. 19. She finished 45th (2:19.28) in the 800m at the BU John Thomas Terrier Classic on Jan. 25-26. McCaffrey placed first in the mile (5:21.86) at the Bowdoin Invitational on Jan. 12. She placed first in the 800m (2:23.68) and third in the 4x800m relay (10:29.80) at the RIC Invitational on Dec. 8.
 
McCaffrey played for RIC’s women’s basketball team as a junior in 2017-18.
 
As a sophomore in 2016-17, she placed 21st in the 1,000m (3:12.99) at the N.E. Open Championships on Feb. 25. She finished fifth in the 1,000m (3:09.19; season-best) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 17. McCaffrey earned N.E. Alliance honors with a fifth place finish in the 1,000m (3:11.86) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 11. McCaffrey also finished 17th in the 3,000m (12:13.54) at the same meet. She placed 21st in the 1,000m (3:13.72) at the URI Invitational on Feb. 4. McCaffrey finished 46th in the 1,000m (3:10.53) at the John Thomas Terrier Classic on Jan. 27. She finished 10th in the 3,000m (11:48.83; season-best) at the Maroon & White Classic on Jan 21. McCaffrey placed second in the 1,000m (3:28.86), while also finishing sixth in the mile (6:05.12), at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 14. She placed first in the 1,000m (3:14.75) at the UMass Boston Invitational on Dec. 3.

Women's Cross Country
As a senior in 2019, McCaffrey finished 73rd (23:29.37) at the N.E. Div. III Championship on Nov. 10. She finished second (19:57.8) at the Little East Championship on Oct. 27. McCaffrey placed ninth (23:37) at the WNE Invitational on Oct. 13. She finished 25th (19:41.97) at the James Earley Invitational on Oct. 6. McCaffrey placed 11th (24:30.20) at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Sept. 22. She placed 80th (20:13.15) at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 15.
 
As a junior in 2017, McCaffrey placed 141st (23:50.7) at the N.E. Championships on Nov. 11. McCaffrey earned All-LEC honors after placing seventh (20:04.5) at the Little East Championship on Oct. 28. She recorded an 11th place finish (27:00) at the Western New England Invitational on Oct. 14. McCaffrey finished in 32nd place (19:47.18) at the James Earley Invitational on Oct. 7. She finished in 13th place (20:21.80) at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Sept. 23. McCaffrey recorded a 136th place finish (20:55.97) at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 16.
 
As a sophomore in 2016, she placed 237th (25:21.89) at the N.E. Div. III Championship on Nov. 12. She finished 27th place (20:13.63) at the Little East Championship on Oct. 29. McCaffrey placed 55th (21:38.00) at the WNE Invitational on Oct. 15. She finished in 164th place (25:34.41) at the James Earley Invitational on Oct 8. McCaffrey placed 20th (20:49.00) at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Sept. 24. She finished 177th place (21:56.58) at the season-opening UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 17.

Women's Basketball
As a junior in 2017-18, McCaffrey played in 23 games, starting three of them. She averaged 5.0 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. McCaffrey had a season-high 13 points and 10 rebounds vs. Plymouth State on Jan. 13. She dished out four assists on three occasions and swiped four steals vs. UMass Dartmouth on Jan. 24.
