Bob Sepe was an outstanding, hard-throwing, right-handed pitcher in baseball who led the team in wins, strikeouts, earned run average and shutouts in the program’s formative years and went on to establish his own manufacturing business.
Sepe played under legendary head coach Dave Stenhouse from 1968-72. In his first two years he compiled a record of 9-4 with an average of about 50-55 strikeouts a season, with an earned run average between 2.5-2.8 as the program began to build itself up. In his final two seasons, he etched himself in the Anchormen history books, logging the lowest earned run average in program history, 2.59, in 1971-72. In his senior year, he was listed as a tri-captain for the team. He has fond memories of the out-of-state road trips with the team, playing along the eastern seaboard from New York to Virginia.
Sepe graduated from Rhode Island College in 1972 with a bachelor degree in education and a minor in social sciences. He has long praised his experience at the college as a “pearl in the rough” institution that provides an excellent education with outstanding professors.
From 1972-79, he was a manager for Aetna Insurance. He then joined his father, Anthony, in his manufacturing business Physical Testing Equipment Services, Inc., from 1979 until 2006, starting as a co-owner and vice president before becoming full owner.
When the company sold in 2006, Sepe then joined the Rhode Island Convention Center as a parking facilities manager, assisting in the set-up of events with colleges and events that were hosted by the Amica Mutual Pavilion (formerly the Dunkin Donuts Center). Sepe retired during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
Ever since his youth in Cranston, Sepe has always been a family-first man. When Coach Stenhouse offered Sepe to play at Cape Cod over the summer, he declined the opportunity to continue to work over the summer and support his family.
He has been married to his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth, for 53 years. He has two daughters, Andrea and Lauren.
In retirement, Sepe volunteers for various health organizations, works as a substitute teacher in the Warwick public school system and is a loving daycare grandfather for his five grandchildren: Juliana, Annabelle, Gabriele, Logan and Lilianne.
