Conor McCloskey ’14 was an outstanding distance runner during his career in both men's cross country and track and field. He helped RIC win the 2013 Little East Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship and was named to RIC's 100th Anniversary Men's Cross Country Team.
The Wakefield, R.I. native earned a bachelor's degree in secondary education social studies from RIC in 2013 and obtained a masters in school leadership from Providence College.
Men's Cross Country
As a senior in 2012, McCloskey was named the team MVP and was the top RIC finisher in all eight races. He placed 64th with a time of 26:20.35 at the 2012 N.E. Div. III Championships on Nov. 10. McCloskey earned All-ECAC honors after recording a sixth place finish and a time of 26:54 at the 2012 ECAC Div. III Championships on Nov. 3. He placed second overall and first in the Little East Conference with a time of 25:37.71 en route to N.E. Alliance honors for the second straight season at the 2012 N.E. Alliance Championships on Oct. 27. He was just the second RIC runner ever to win the Alliance title and the first since Eric Lonergan won the championship in 2006. McCloskey’s time was the 13th-fastest in RIC cross country history.
McCloskey finished second with a time of 25:47.09 at the WNE Golden Bear Invitational on Oct. 13. He finished 10th with a time of 26:29.45 at the James Earley Invitational on Oct. 6. McCloskey finished fourth with a time of 26:03.00 at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Sept. 29. He finished seventh with a time of 26:36.90 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Sept. 22. McCloskey finished 10th with a season-best time of 25:17 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 15. It was the fourth-fastest time in program history. He was named the Little East Conference Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week three times on the season.
As a junior in 2011, McCloskey was named the team MVP and was the top RIC finisher in all eight races. He placed 67th with a time of 26:11.83 at the N.E. Division III Championships on Nov. 12. McCloskey earned All-ECAC honors, placing 15th with a time of 26:56.70 at the ECAC Championships on Nov. 5. He earned N.E. All-Alliance honors, placing fifth with a season-best time of 25:43 at the Alliance Championships on Oct. 29. McCloskey’s effort was the 13th-fastest time in the championship’s history and tied for the 16th-best time in program history. McCloskey took first place with a time of 24:03 to help guide Rhode Island College to a 21-34 victory over Eastern Connecticut on Oct. 15 (shortened course). He placed 11th with a time of 26:47.56 at the James Earley Invitational on Oct. 8. He finished fourth overall with a time of 26:57 at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Oct. 1. McCloskey took first overall with a time of 27:49 at the Elms College Invitational on Sept. 24. He placed 28th with a time of 25:50.22 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 17. He was named Little East Runner of the Week three times on the season.
As a sophomore in 2010, McCloskey placed 139th with a time of 28:33.3 at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Nov. 13. He placed 55th with a time of 27:40.98 at the ECAC Championships on Nov. 6. McCloskey placed 21st with a time of 27:48.20 at the N.E. Alliance Championship on Oct. 30. He earned a second place finish with a time of 22:30 (shortened course) at Eastern Connecticut on Oct. 16. McCloskey placed 30th with a time of 27:30.46 at the James Earley Invitational on Oct. 9. He placed 31st with a time of 28:10 at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Oct. 2. McCloskey placed 101st with a time of 29:15 at the Cod Fish Bowl on Sept. 25. He placed 112th with a season-best time of 27:24 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept 18.
As a freshman in 2009, McCloskey placed 137th with a time of 28:01.30 at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Nov. 14. He placed 51st with a time of 28:14.00 at the ECAC Championships on Nov. 7. McCloskey was RIC’s top runner, placing 29th with a time of 28:11.00, at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Oct. 31. He placed third with a season-best time of 27:05.00 at Eastern Connecticut on Oct. 17. McCloskey placed 34th with a time of 27:44.64 at the James Earley Invitational on Oct. 10. He placed 14th with a time of 27:59.00 at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Oct. 3. McCloskey placed 115th with a time of 27:29.00 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 19.
Men's Outdoor Track and Field
As a senior in 2013, McCloskey placed 23rd in the 1,500m (4:01.40) at the ECAC Championships on May 16-17. He placed 20th in the 1,500m (4:02.42) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 4. McCloskey was the N.E. Alliance Champion in the 5,000m (15:26.08; season best) and earned N.E. Alliance honors following a third place and season-best finish in the 1,500m (3:56.92) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on April 27. He placed fourth in the 5,000m (15:44.46) and fifth in the 1,500m (4:02.02) at the Silfen Invitational on April 20. McCloskey finished 13th in the 3,000m with a new program-record time (8:48.01) at the Brown Invitational on April 13. He took second in the 1,500m (4:07.43) and seventh in the 800m (2:04.76) at the Corsair Invitational on April 6. McCloskey took first place in the 5,000m (15:35.19) at the Coast Guard Invitational on March 30.
As a junior in 2012, McCloskey placed 15th in the 1,500m (3:58.66) at the ECAC Championships on May 18. He placed 17th in the 1,500m (3:59.01) at the N.E. Open Championships on May 11-12. McCloskey placed 22nd in the 1,500m (4:04.13) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Saturday, May 5. He earned a pair of N.E. Alliance honors, placing third in the 5,000m (15:29.15) and fourth in the 1,500m with a season-best time (3:57.59), at the Alliance Championships on April 28. McCloskey placed second in the 1,500m (3:59.50) and eighth in the 800m (1:59.19) at the Silfen Invitational on April 28. He took second place in the 1,500m (3:59.16) at the Bernard Solomon Husky Invitational on April 14. McCloskey placed second in the 800m with a season-best time (1:58.00) and was also a member of the 1,600m sprint medley relay squad that earned a first place finish and established a new program record with a time of 3:36.75 at the Corsair Classic on April 7. He finished first in the 5,000m with a season-best effort (15:27.13) at the Coast Guard Bear Invitational on March 31.
As a sophomore in 2011, McCloskey placed 17th (3:22.20) as part of the 4x400m relay at the ECAC Championships on May 19-20. He placed 22nd in the 1,500m (4:10.25) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 7. McCloskey earned a pair of N.E. Alliance honors by placing fourth in the 1,500m (4:02.84) and seventh in the 800m (1:59.18), both of which were season-best times, at the N.E. Alliance Championships on April 30. He finished third in the 1,500m (4:04.97) and sixth in the 800m (2:01.71) at the Silfen Invitational on April 23. McCloskey placed fifth in the 5,000m with a season-best time (16:00.47) and 11th in the 800m (2:05.46) at the Swanson Invitational on April 9. He won the 1,500m (4:04.36) at the Coast Guard Invitational on April 2. McCloskey placed 12th in the 5,000m (16:00.77) at the Jerry Gravel Classic on March 26.
As a freshman in 2010, McCloskey placed 11th in the 1,500m with a season-best time of 4:12.47 at the Alliance Championships on April 24. He placed 11th in the 1,500m (4:15.36) at the Silfen Invitational on April 17. McCloskey placed 10th in the 800m with a season-best time of 2:07.18 at the Swanson Invitational on April 10. He placed 13th in the 1,500m (4:22.13) at the Coast Guard Invitational on April 3.
Men's Indoor Track and Field
As a senior in 2012-13, McCloskey finished ninth in the mile (4:18.76) at the Tufts Last Chance Meet on March 2. McCloskey finished 25th in the mile with a season-best time of 4:16.42 at the N.E. Open Championships on Feb. 23. He placed ninth in the mile (4:20.12) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 16. McCloskey earned N.E. Alliance honors with second place finishes in the mile (4:21.29), the 3,000m with a season-high time of 8:54.28 and the 5,000m with a season-high time of 15:52.20 at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 10. He finished seventh in the mile (4:25.45) at the Tufts Stampede Invitational on Feb. 2. McCloskey finished 66th in the mile (4:21.54) at the B.U. Terrier Invitational on Jan. 26. He finished third in the mile (4:24.78) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 19. McCloskey took first in the 3,000m (9:03.19) and finished third in the 1,000m with a season-high time of 2:40.61 at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 12. He finished second in the mile (4:17.12) at the Harvard Open on Dec. 8. McCloskey took first place in both the 1,000m (2:41.29) and the 3,000m (8:47.09) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 1.
As a junior in 2011-2012, McCloskey was named the team MVP. He took 12th in the mile (4:18.90) at the ECAC Championships on March 3. He broke his own record with a 20th place finish in the mile (4:11.95) at the NEICAAA Championships on Feb. 25, and was also a member of the 4x800m relay team that broke their own record with a 14th-place finish and a time of 7:52.55. McCloskey earned All-New England honors in the mile with a seventh place finish (4:18.37) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 18. He won the N.E. Alliance Championship in the 3,000m with a season-best time of 8:39.50 at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 11, while also earning N.E. Alliance honors as the Little East Champion with a season-best effort in the 1,000m (2:32.40) and a second place finish. McCloskey finished 29th in the mile (4:15.41) at the BU Terrier Invitational on Jan. 28. He placed second in the 3,000m (8:40.44) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 21. McCloskey placed first in both the 1,000m (2:38.16) and the 3,000m (8:50.78) at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 14. He finished first in the mile (4:21.91) at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 7. McCloskey placed fourth in the mile (4:19.03) at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 10. He finished first in the 3,000m (8:43.85) and placed second in the 1,000m (2:37.19) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 3. McCloskey was named Little East Conference Track Athlete of the Week once on the season.
As a sophomore in 2010-2011, McCloskey helped establish a new program record in the 4x800m relay (7:55.99) at the NEICAAA Championship Meet on Feb. 26. McCloskey earned a pair of N.E. Alliance honors by placing sixth in the 1,000m (2:40.37) and seventh in the 3,000m (8:55.78) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 12. He placed 55th with a season-best performance in the 3,000m (8:55.76) at the Boston University Terrier Invitational on Jan. 29. McCloskey finished ninth with a season-best performance in the mile (4:34.21) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 22. He placed second with a season-best performance in the 1,000m (2:40.36) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 15. McCloskey took second in the mile (4:34:51) at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 8. He placed 16th in the 3,000m (9:06.22) at the Harvard Open on Dec. 11. McCloskey placed third in the mile (4:38.00) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 4.
As a freshman in 2009-2010, McCloskey placed sixth in the 4x800m relay with a season-best time of 8:30.78 at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 13. He finished 22nd in the mile with a season-best time of 4:44.61 at the Wheaton Invitational on Jan. 23. He placed second as part of the 4x800m (8:47.94), fourth in the 1,000m (2:49.53) and 10th in the mile (4:45.90) at the Coast Guard Invitational on Jan. 16. At the Harvard Open on Dec. 12, McCloskey placed 24th in the 800m with a season-best time of 2:04.10. He placed fourth in the 1,000m with a season-best time of 2:40.63 at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 5.
