APICI SCORES TWICE IN, 19-6, LOSS VS. SALVE REGINA

Providence, R.I.—Senior attacker Alasondra Apici (Providence, RI) scored a pair of goals as the Rhode Island College women's lacrosse team fell to intra-state rival Salve Regina, 19-6, in a non-conference contest at Alumni Field on Thursday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Salve Regina scored four goals in the first 2:46, paced by senior midfielder Katie Kline's (Brookfield, CT) two markers.

• Apici put RIC on the board with 24:47 left in the first half, but the visitors scored the next five straight to build a 9-1 advantage at 18:30. Sophomore attacker Maddie Villareal (Portsmouth, RI) scored what proved to be game-winning goal as she put the visiting Seahawks up, 7-1, with 21:03 left in the first half.

• Salve Regina held a 12-3 lead at halftime.

• The Seahawks scored three times in the first 7:34 of the second half to build a 15-3 lead.

• Apici scored to make it 15-5 with just over 12:00 remaining in the contest, but Salve Regina scored four straight, including three from sophomore midfielder Kiley Anderson (East Greenwich, RI), to put the contest out of reach.

 

BY THE NUMBERS

• Anderson led the way for SRU with six goals and two assists for eight points, while Kline had four goals and one assist for five points to go along with four draw controls.

• Six Salve Regina players had multiple point efforts.

• RIC freshman midfielder Madison McKenna (Cumberland, RI) finished with one goal and one assist for two points to go along with four ground balls.

• Junior goalkeeper Julia Eaton (Cumberland, RI) made 16 saves in the loss for RIC, while freshman Christina Myers (River Edge, NJ) had seven stops for Salve Regina.

• Salve Regina outshot RIC by a 39-20 margin and held a 24-20 advantage over the Anchorwomen in ground balls.

• RIC registered a 14-13 advantage in draw controls.

 

WHAT'S NEXT

• In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will resume Little East Conference action at UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday, April 17 (7 p.m.).
