Haley Oliver Wins Little East Individual Women's Cross Country Title and Named Runner of the Year

Dartmouth, Mass.-- Junior Haley Oliver (Coventry, R.I.) captured the individual championship for the second consecutive season by finishing first at the 2024 Little East Women's Cross Country Championship, hosted by UMass Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon.
 
THE BASICS
• RIC finished sixth (nine teams) with a team score of 168.0. Keene State won the meet with a team score of 28.0. The Anchorwomen improved one spot from a seventh place finish in 2023.
 
• There were 82 competitors in the race, which was a 5k.
 
• The top seven earned First Team All-Little East honors, while runners eight through 14 were tabbed Second Team All-LEC.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Oliver finished first overall (18:09.60) for the second straight season, the first Rhode Island College runner ever to accomplish that feat. She finished 35 seconds ahead of the next closest competitor.
 
• She was also named the Little East Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year for the second straight season. Oliver earned First Team All-Little East honors for the third consecutive season.

• Freshman Quiana Pezza (Cranston, R.I.) finished 62nd (23:27.60).
 
• Freshman Gianna Wilson (Pawtucket, R.I.) finished 63rd (23:28.40).
 
• Freshman Bendu Kamara (Pawtucket, R.I.) finished 69th (24:24.50).
 
• Sophomore Shirley Portillo (North Providence, R.I.) finished 70th (24:28.70).
 
• Sophomore Lexie Zakrzewski (Taunton, Mass.) finished 73rd (24:42.50).
 
• Junior Sasha Sainristil (Cranston, R.I.) finished 76th (26:06.90).
 
• Sophomore Marlyn Dunlop (Providence, R.I.) finished 78th (27:09.20).
 
• Freshman Kandace Daniel (East Providence, R.I.) finished 81st (27:39.90).
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the 2024 NCAA Div. III Mideast Championship, hosted by Conn. College on Saturday, Nov. 16.
