Smithfield, R.I.--Senior Haley Oliver (Coventry, R.I.) finished sixth (18:49.50) as the Rhode Island College women's cross country team finished eighth (nine teams) in their 2025 season-opener at Bryant's Shawn M. Nassaney Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
 
THE BASICS
• RIC finished eighth (nine teams) with a team score of 211.0. Bryant won the meet with a team score of 36.0.
 
• There were 94 runners who competed in the race, which was a 5k.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Oliver was the highest-finishing Div. III student-athlete at the race. The top five finishers were Div. I or unattached runners.
 
• Freshman Kathryn Patalano (Riverside, R.I.) finished 69^th (22:39.50).
 
• Freshman Morgan Gonsalves (Dartmouth, Mass.) finished 81^st (24:04.40).
 
• Junior Shirley Portillo (North Providence, R.I.) finished 88^th (27:40.00).
 
• Sophomore Grace Lane (North Smithfield, R.I.) finished 89^th (27:52.50).
 
• Sophomore Stephanie Sican Velez (Pawtucket, R.I.) finished 90^th (28:32.70).

• Junior Lexie Zakrzewski (Taunton, Mass.) finished 93^rd (29:48.90).
