Women's Tennis Wins Little East Title

Providence, R.I.—Freshman Jenna Lisi (Cranston, RI) was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player as No. 1-seeded Rhode Island College defeated No. 2-seeded UMass Boston, 5-0, in the finals of the 2019 Little East Women's Tennis Championship on Sunday afternoon at the RIC Tennis Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• It is the program's third consecutive Little East Championship title and the ninth overall for the program. RIC claimed its fifth straight, and 11th overall, Little East Regular Season Championship with a perfect, 9-0, record during the season.

• With the win, RIC will compete in the 2019-20 NCAA Div. III Women's Tennis Championship in May. It will mark the third straight season the Anchorwomen have reached the NCAA Tournament. 

• The RIC junior duo of Grace Zangari (Saunderstown, RI) and Hailey Raskob (North Smithfield, RI) defeated the UMass Boston tandem of senior Valeria Tueme (Bonney Lake, WA) and freshman Shelby Parent (Cambridge, MN), 8-0, at No. 2 doubles.

• RIC sophomore Michaela Burr (Westerly, RI) and junior Emily Orticerio (Smithfield, RI) defeated UMB sophomore Chloe Gates (Plymouth, MA) and freshman Evangelia Vassiliadis (Weymouth, MA), 8-2, at No. 3 doubles.

• Lisi and junior Laurel Ten Eyck (Warwick, RI) defeated UMass Boston freshman Amy Drame (Milwaukee, WI) and senior Katie Gauthier (West Boylston, MA), 8-3, at No. 1 doubles to send the hosts into singles play with a 3-0 lead.

• Zangari defeated Vassiliadis (6-0, 6-1) at No. 3 singles to put RIC within a point of winning the title.

• Junior Victoria Vittori (New Bedford, MA) clinched the win (6-2, 6-1) vs. Parent at No. 5 singles. 

• Lisi went 1-0 at No. 1 singles and 2-0 at No. 1 doubles, along with Ten Eyck, in the club's two tournament wins.

• The Anchorwomen defeated No. 5-seeded Bridgewater State, 5-0, in the semifinals on Oct. 18 to reach the finals for the fourth straight season.
