Women's Tennis Heads Back to LEC Title Match

Providence, R.I.—No. 1-seeded Rhode Island College defeated No. 4-seeded UMass Dartmouth, 5-2, in semifinal action of the 2018 Little East Women's Tennis Championship at the RIC Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.

The Anchorwomen will advance to face second-seeded Plymouth State tomorrow in the title match (11 a.m.).

HOW IT HAPPENED
• UMass Dartmouth picked up the first point of the match at No. 1 doubles as senior Jenna Lahaie (Lakeville, MA) and junior Jaime Fastino (Rehoboth, MA) recorded an 8-4 win over RIC senior Katherine Braganca (Pawtucket, RI) and sophomore Laurel Ten Eyck (Warwick, RI).

• The RIC sophomore tandem of Grace Zangari (Saunderstown, RI) and Hailey Raskob (North Smithfield, RI) secured an 8-6 win over juniors Monika Reining (Linsengericht, Germany) and Natasha Shiku (North Grafton, MA).

• RIC sophomores Serena Bobola (Cranston, RI) and Emily Orticerio (North Smithfield, RI) gave the hosts a 2-1 advantage with an 8-4 victory over UMD sophomore Michelle Aftandilian (Watertown, MA) and sophomore Jordan Martin (Taunton, MA).

• Raskob defeated Michelle Aftandilian (6-1, 6-0) at No. 3 singles to give the hosts a 3-1 advantage.

• UMD countered when Lahaie best Zangari (6-2, 6-1) at No. 1 singles.

• RIC freshman Clara Siegmund (Pomfret, CT) defeated UMD sophomore Rachel Aftandilian (Watertown, MA) (6-2, 6-1) at No. 5 singles.

• Ten Eyck sent RIC to the finals for the third straight year with a (6-4, 6-0) win over sophomore Emma Sokolovsky (Canton, MA) to give the Anchorwomen the, 5-2 win.

MILESTONE
RIC Head Women's Tennis Coach Adam Spring tied Athletic Hall of Famer Dick Ernst for the most wins in program history (90) and can become the Anchorwomen's all-time leader with a win in the championship match tomorrow morning.
