Salem State Edges Anchorwomen in 2025 Season Opener

Providence, R.I.--Freshman goalkeeper Oceanna Orlandi (East Greenwich, R.I.) made three saves in her collegiate debut as Rhode Island College fell, 1-0, vs. Salem State at Alumni Stadium on Friday afternoon.

THE BASICS
Salem State 1, Rhode Island College 0
Salem State (1-0)
Rhode Island College (0-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• After an hour and a half thunderstorm delay, the game kicked off just after the 5:30 p.m. mark.

• Both squads struggled to get shot on the net in the early going, but it was the Anchorwomen who registered the game's first attempt 13 minutes into the game as senior forward Tayshia Cary (Wakefield, R.I.) couldn't convert off a cross in the box.

• The Anchorwomen tallied just two more shots throughout the half as the Viking chances in the 34th and 40th minutes on free kicks were calmly saved by Orlandi.

• After the halftime break, it took the Vikings less than two minutes to put the game's first goal on the board as senior forward Jenna Mitza (Tyngsboro, Mass.) netted her first from a shot from just outside the top left of the 18-yard box.

• The Anchorwomen had a late chance to net the equalizer as time was about to expire when freshman midfielder Sarah Pimentel (Cranston, R.I.) took a shot that just trickled wide of the post as the final horn sounded.

• Cary led the hosts with three shots.
