Oliver Claims Individual Title and Sets Facility Record at N.E. Championship

New London, Conn.--Junior Haley Oliver (Coventry, R.I.) claimed the New England Championship in the 10,000m with a first place finish (36:21.78) as Rhode Island College finished the first day of competition at the New England Div. III Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship, hosted by Coast Guard on Friday afternoon.
 
THE BASICS
• RIC is currently tied for fourth place (25 teams) with a team score of 16.0. Tufts is currently in first place with a team score of 26.0.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Oliver also broke the Coast Guard's facility record in the 10,000m (37:12.61), which was previously set in 2008.
 
• Senior Samantha Sainristil (Cranston, R.I.) earned All-New England honors with a third place finish in the hammer (46.18m).
 
• Junior Bethanie Jean-Philippe (Cranston, R.I.) finished 14th in the javelin (33.82m).

• Freshman Taryn Reed (Pascoag, R.I.) finished 14th in the hammer (42.02m).
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete in the second day of the N.E. Div. III Championship on Saturday, May 3.
