Western Connecticut Defeats RIC, 21-4

Danbury, Conn.—Freshman attacker Brie Macaruso (Ashaway, R.I.), the reigning Little East Rookie of the Week, scored twice as Rhode Island College fell, 21-4, vs. Western Connecticut in LEC women's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Wolves scored the first six goals of the game and led, 9-1, after the first 15 minutes.
 
• The Anchorwomen scored twice in the second quarter, but WestConn put the game out of reach by outscoring the visitors, 6-2, to lead by 12, 15-3, at halftime.
 
• Junior attacker Claire Greene (Storrs, Conn.) and senior midfielder Maggie Schwab (Saunderstown R.I.) each had a goal and three draw controls in the loss.
 
• Macaruso contributed two ground balls and three caused turnovers.
 
• Sophomore goalkeeper Giana Franco (Salem, Conn.) made 11 saves in the setback (1-5).
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East action at home vs. VTSU Castleton on Saturday, April 12 (3 p.m.).
