Anchormen Sweep Panthers to Raise Win Streak to Five

Providence, R.I.--Fifth-year shortstop Izaiah Rivera (Pawtucket, R.I.) went a combined 4-for-7 with three RBI, a homer and three runs scored as Rhode Island College swept Plymouth State in Little East baseball action played at Pontarelli Field on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE
• Fifth-year right fielder Justin Wardwell (Westport, Mass.) belted a solo homer to right field to start the scoring for the Anchormen in the first frame.
 
• A homer in the third by Rivera capped off a four-run outburst in the second and third to put the Anchormen up, 5-0, heading into the fourth.
 
• Two runs came in for the Panthers in the fourth, but RIC tagged the visitors six more in the fourth and fifth frames, thanks to a pair of RBI from Wardwell and another from senior first baseman Daniel Trzepacz (Mont Vernon, N.H.).
 
• Sophomore second baseman Parker Camelo (Bristol, R.I.) capped off the game with an RBI single giving the Anchormen a 10-run lead in the seventh to end the game early.
 
• Wardwell went 2-for-5 with four RBI and a pair of runs scored.

• Fifth-year pitcher Terry Murray (Norfolk, Mass.) was dominant in a career-high 12 strikeout as he notched his second win (2-4).
 
GAME TWO
• Rivera continued his hot day at the plate with an RBI single in the first.
 
• Senior catcher Lucas Pierce (Chepachet, R.I.) had the Anchormen sailing in the second frame with a bases-clearing three-run double to put RIC up by, 5-0.
 
• Wardwell and Trzepacz combined for another three runs in the bottom of the third as the hosts built an 8-0 advantage after three.
 
• The Panthers scored five unanswered between the fourth and fifth frames to creep back, however, fifth-year third baseman Cal Parrillo (Greenville, R.I.) doubled down the line to bring in a run in the sixth.
 
• RIC closed the door in the bottom of the eighth with three runs as junior center fielder Lucas McElroy (Westport, Mass.) singled in a run and Camelo doubled in another.
 
• McElroy went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and two RBI.

• Sophomore pitcher Stephen Sullivan (Acton, Mass.) recorded the win (3-2), while sophomore reliever Jake Foster (Lincoln, R.I.) picked up the save (1).
 
• Parrillo notched two hits on the day to climb within one of the all-time program record for career hits (216). Trzepacz registered three hits to bring his career total to 213 and is within three of the RIC record.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East action at UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday, April 29 (3:30 p.m.).
