Anchorwomen Win Seven Events and Take Second at Eastern Connecticut's Bonnie Edmondson Invitational

Willimantic, Conn.--Fifth-year Trinity Hayes (Providence, R.I.) won four different events as the Rhode Island College women's track and field team competed at Eastern Connecticut's Bonnie Edmondson Classic on Friday afternoon.
 
THE BASICS
• Rhode Island College finished second (11 teams) with a team score of 149.0. Eastern Connecticut finished first overall with a team score of 168.0.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Hayes finished first in the 400m (57.32), 200m (25.25), 4x100m relay (48.83) and 4x400m relay (4:10.32).
 
• Senior Samantha Sainristil (Cranston, R.I.) won the hammer (47.68m) and finished third in the shot (11.49m).
 
• Junior Haley Oliver (Coventry, R.I.) won the 1,500m (4:51.48), 800m (2:24.07) and the 4x400m relay (4:10.32).
 
• Freshman Quiana Pezza (Cranston, R.I.) finished first in the 4x100m relay (48.83), third in the 100m (12.56) and fourth in the 200m (26.45).
 
• Junior Tayshia Cary (Wakefield, R.I.) finished first in the 4x100m relay (48.83), fifth in the 200m (26.58) and 10th in the 100m (13.17).
 
• Freshman Bendu Kamara (Pawtucket, R.I.) finished first in both the 4x100m relay (48.83) and 4x400m relay (4:10.32), fourth in the 100m (12.81) and sixth in the 200m (26.71).
 
• Sophomore Lexie Zakrzewski (Taunton, Mass.) finished first in the 4x400m relay (4:10.32), ninth in the 400m (1:05.50) and 18th in the 200m (28.17).
 
• Junior Bethanie Jean-Philippe (Cranston, R.I.) finished second in the javelin (37.36m).
 
• Freshman Funmilayo Mclin (Providence, R.I.) finished third in the hammer (41.18m).
 
• Freshman Grace Lane (North Smithfield, R.I.) finished sixth in the 800m (2:33.66).
 
• Freshman Taryn Reed (Pascoag, R.I.) finished sixth in the hammer (39.88m).
 
• Junior Valeria Uribe Calderon (Central Falls, R.I.) finished eighth in the 400m hurdles (1:21.07).
 
• Sophomore Shirley Portillo (North Providence, R.I.) finished ninth in the 400m hurdles (1:24.72).
 
• Junior Milana Melvin (Johnston, R.I.) finished 13th in the hammer (32.11m) and 15th in the shot (9.11m).

Freshman Mariangely Rodriguez (Providence, R.I.) finished 15th in the hammer (31.22m).
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the 2025 Little East Championship, hosted by UMass Dartmouth on Saturday, April 26.
