Oliver and Sainristil Qualify for N.E. Div. III Championship at Bryant's Black and Gold Invitational

Smithfield, R.I.--Junior Haley Oliver (Coventry, R.I.) qualified for the N.E. Div. III Championships in the 10,000m as she finished fifth (36:40.50) as the Rhode Island College women's track and field team opened up the first day of competition at Bryant's Black and Gold Invitational on Friday afternoon.
 
THE BASICS
• RIC finished the day in a tie for sixth place (10 teams) with a team score of 8.0. UNH is currently in first with a team score of 44.0.
 
• The meet is comprised of mostly Div. I and II competition.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Oliver's time in the 10,000m currently ranks her third in the country (Div. III).
 
• Senior Samantha Sainristil (Cranston, R.I.) qualified for the N.E. Div. III Championships in the hammer as she finished 11th (43.70m). She also finished 27th in the discus (29.27m).
 
• Freshman Funmilayo Mclin (Providence, R.I.) finished 22nd in the hammer (38.27m).
 
• Freshman Taryn Reed (Pascoag, R.I.) finished 25th in the hammer (37.09m).

• Junior Milana Melvin (Johnston, R.I.) finished 26th in the hammer (36.52m).
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at day two of Bryant's Black and Gold Invitational on Saturday, March 29.
