Hayes, Pezza and Sainristil Rack Up More N.E. Championship Qualifying Efforts at Shamrock Invitational

Myrtle Beach, S.C.—Fifth-year Trinity Hayes (Providence, R.I.) qualified for the New England Div. III Championship in both the 200m and the 400m as the Rhode Island College women's track and field team wrapped up competition at the 2025 Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
 
THE BASICS
• RIC tied for 12th (50 teams) with a team score of 23.0.  Coastal Carolina finished first with a team score of 121.0.
 
• The Anchorwomen competed against over 50 institutions, comprised of mostly Division I and II competition.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Hayes finished fifth in the 400m (59.13), ninth in the 200m (24.88) and 11th in the 4x100m relay (49.44).
 
• Senior Samantha Sainristil (Cranston, R.I.) qualified for the New England Div. III Championship in the shot with a fourth place finish (12.04m). She also finished 21st in the discus (33.11m).
 
• Freshman Quiana Pezza (Cranston, R.I.) qualified for the New England Div. III Championship in the triple jump with a 11th place finish (10.67m) and in the 200m with a 23rd place finish (25.78). She also finished 11th in the 4x100m relay (49.44).
 
• Junior Sasha Sainristil (Cranston, R.I.) finished 10th in the triple jump flight B (9.50m).
 
• Junior Tayshia Cary (Wakefield, R.I.) finished 11th in the 4x100m relay (49.44).
 
• Freshman Bendu Kamara (Pawtucket, R.I.) finished 11th in the 4x100m relay (49.44), 14th in the 400m (1:03.10) and 46th in the 200m (26.97).
 
• Junior Haley Oliver (Coventry, R.I.) finished 13th in the 800m (2:25.87).
 
• Junior Milana Melvin (Johnston, R.I.) finished 39th in the discus (24.03m) and 41st in the shot (8.20m).
 
• Freshman Mariangely Rodriguez (Providence, R.I.) finished 48th in the discus (20.32m).
 
• Freshman Funmilayo Mclin (Providence, R.I.) finished 50th in the discus (19.77m).

• Sophomore Lexie Zakrzewski (Taunton, Mass.) finished 63rd in the 200m (28.18).
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at Bryant's Black and Gold Invitational on Friday and Saturday, March 28-29.
