Anchormen Pound Penn State York, 17-6

Myrtle Beach, S.C.—Senior catcher Lucas Pierce (Chepachet, R.I.) continued his torrid hitting pace, going 3-for-7 with three runs scored, two home runs and four RBI as Rhode Island College crushed Penn State York, 17-6, at the Ripken Experience on Wednesday morning.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• A solo blast by Pierce in the top of the sixth inning snapped a 1-1 deadlock and proved to be the game-winning run.
 
• The Anchormen bats erupted for 15 runs over the next three innings, including six in the seventh and seven in the ninth, to bury the hosts.
 
• Pierce notched an RBI single in seventh and a two-run homer in the eighth.
 
• Junior left fielder Daniel Cascio (East Hampton, Conn.) was one of three Anchormen with three hits on the day, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBI and two walks.
 
• Freshman pitcher Ben Nowinski (Barrington, R.I.) notched his first collegiate win (1-0), hurling seven innings and allowing just one unearned run on five hits to go along with five strikeouts.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will face New England College on Thursday, March 13 (9 a.m.).
