Madison Medbury (Scituate, R.I.) registered 12 points, 13 rebounds and three steals as Rhode Island College defeated UMass Boston, 49-46, in Little East action played at the Murray Center on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• UMass Boston came out of the gates by applying pressure on defense as the Beacons closed out the first quarter on top by two, 10-8.

• RIC would gain its first lead of the game during the second quarter, 15-13, as freshman guard
Jaina Yekelchik (North Scituate, R.I.) nailed a pair of free throws.Â

• However, both teams' defenses were the story to end the first half as RIC led by three, 20-17, heading into the break.

• The Beacons tested the Anchorwomen in the third quarter, as both sides went back and forth, but it was RIC with the lead by a slim two points, 34-32, heading into the final 10 minutes.

• A pair of buckets from UMass Boston to open the final frame gave the Beacons a three-point lead, 37-34.

• The hosts anchored down for the final eight minutes, as a jumper from sophomore guard
Meagan Schuermann (Cooperstown, N.Y.) gave RIC a, 48-46, lead with 40 seconds to play.

• One final free throw from Yekelchik would ice the game as the Anchorwomen rolled to their seventh consecutive victory.

• Schuermann contributed a team-high 13 points.
