HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Beacons controlled the first 10 minutes of play and held an eight-point lead, 20-12, before sophomore forward

Â
• However, RIC would trail by six, 37-31, going into the locker room as UMass Boston's 60 percent shooting from beyond the three-point arc and the Anchormen's seven turnovers told the first half story.
Â
• Nine minutes into the second half, a Mendez layup gave the hosts a one-point lead, 54-53, the team's first lead since the 13:13 mark of the first half where they led, 11-10.
Â
• The Anchormen were unable to hold the lead as the Beacons came up with big defensive stops down the stretch, forcing a missed shot on a potential game-tying three with three seconds left.
• Fifth-year forward
