THE BASICS
Rhode Island College 3, VTSU Castleton 2
Rhode Island College (4-1-1)
VTSU Castleton (2-2-3)
HOW IT HAPPENED
• RIC was down two starters on defense and had to call on junior defender
Alexander Bautista (Pawtucket, R.I.) to start on the back line, in which he played splendidly, during the rain-soaked contest.
• Recinos got the scoring started for the Anchormen within the first three minutes off a nice give and go play with junior midfielder
Tariq Adio (Providence, R.I.). Recinos' goal marks his third of the season, which ties Adio for the team lead in that category.
• In the 17
th minute, the ball found its way to Fox in the 18-yard box for his third marker in the past two games.
• Nine minutes later, an Anchorman foul led to a Spartan free kick, which senior midfielder
Toby Ritzkowski (Arlington, Mass.) drilled in from 25-yards out to pull the visitors within one, 2-1.
• Fox put the hosts up by a pair, 3-1, sliding to re-direct a set-piece assist from Recinos in the 56
th minute. It was Recinos' team-leading sixth helper of the year.
• The Spartans had a late scoring effort from first-year forward
Jacques Alfani (Burlington, Vt.) to bring them within one goal again in the 83
rd minute, but the Anchormen held on for their first league win.
• RIC senior goalkeeper
Wesley Perrotto (Pembroke, Mass.) made five saves in the win (3-1-1).
• The Anchormen are now 4-0-1 in their last five games.
