Anchormen Drop Little East Championship Opener at UMass Boston

Boston, Mass.—Senior left fielder Cole Podedworny (Wakefield, R.I.) went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI as No. 6 Rhode Island College fell, 11-3, at No. 1 UMass Boston in game one of the 2024 Little East Baseball Championship on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Rhode Island College scored all three of its runs in the top of the fifth. Senior center fielder Justin Wardwell (Westport, Mass.) led off with a single and eventually scored on an error. Sophomore third baseman Lucas McElroy (Westport, Mass.) brought in one with an RBI single and Podedworny doubled in what proved to be the Anchormen's final score of the day.
 
•  A seven-run outburst in the bottom of the fifth gave the hosts the lead, 7-3, and the Beacons tacked on four additional insurance runs over the rest of the game.
 
• Junior pitcher Liam Dailey (Franklin, Mass.) took the loss (2-3).
 
• Wardwell went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Freshman second baseman Parker Camelo (Bristol, R.I.) went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a walk.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will face the loser of No. 5 Keene State and No. 2 Eastern Connecticut (5 p.m.) in game four (elimination game) of the 2024 Little East Baseball Championship on Thursday, May 9 (noon) at UMass Boston.
