Baseball Takes Game Two From Panthers, 11-6

Laconia, N.H.--Sophomore second baseman Lucas McElroy (Westport, Mass.) went 5-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored as Rhode Island College defeated Plymouth State, 11-6, to complete a doubleheader sweep in Little East action on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Anchormen came out hot in the nightcap, taking a 7-0 lead after three innings. Freshman left fielder Cameron Early (Worcester, Mass.) and senior right fielder Sean Helfrich (Saunderstown, R.I.) each belted home runs in the first.
 
• A four-run fourth inning from the Panthers began their comeback bid, but RIC would respond with three insurance runs in the seventh inning.
 
• Freshman reliever Misael Laboy (Woonsocket, R.I.) earned the win (2-0), throwing 2.1 innings and striking out three batters.
 
• Senior designated hitter Cole Podedworny (Wakefield, R.I.) went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI. Early went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East play at home vs. UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday, April 30 (3:30 p.m.).
