Baseball Scores 11 Unanswered to Defeat Panthers, 17-13

Laconia, N.H.--Senior center fielder Justin Wardwell (Westport, Mass.) went 3-for-6 with four RBI and a two-run home run as the Rhode Island College baseball team defeated Plymouth State, 17-13, in game one of a Little East doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The offense was hot for both sides all game. Runs were scored in every inning except the first.
 
• The Panthers would score six runs in the third inning to hold a 13-6 advantage after the fifth frame.
 
• The Anchormen would respond with sound bullpen pitching and a phenomenal offense, which scored 11 unanswered runs to end the game. Freshman designated hitter Cameron Early (Worcester, Mass.) blasted a three-run homer as part of a four-run seventh inning.
 
• Sophomore second baseman Lucas McElroy (Westport, Mass.) went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI. Senior catcher David Iannuccilli (Johnston, R.I.) went 3-for-6 with a run scored and an RBI.
 
• Freshman reliever Jason Potvin (Tiverton, R.I.) threw three innings and picked up the win (2-0).
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play game two of its twinbill with the Panthers (5 p.m.).
