Marley's Late Goal Leads Anchorwomen Past Albertus Magnus, 10-8

Providence, R.I.--Freshman midfielder Livia Sweeney (Hummelstown, Pa.) scored two goals and set up five others, while Head Coach Jessalyn O'Neill earned her first collegiate win as the Rhode Island College women's lacrosse team defeated Albertus Magnus, 10-8, at Alumni Field on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The game was scoreless for the first five minutes until the Falcons struck first with a free position goal by sophomore midfielder Samantha Helwig (Northford, Conn.).
 
• RIC senior attacker Emily Marino (Cheshire, Conn.) and freshman attacker Sophie DeFlitch (Hummelstown, Pa.) each scored in the first quarter for hosts as they trailed Albertus Magnus, 3-2, after the opening 15 minutes.
 
• Sweeney and Marino would score in the second stanza to even up the score, 4-4, at halftime.
 
• Junior midfielder Hannah Marley (Tiverton, R.I.) would score in the third to give the Anchorwomen their first lead of the game. Sweeney would score again soon after to help give RIC a 6-5 lead going into the fourth quarter.
 
• With the game tied late in the contest, Marley scored what proved to be the eventual game-winning goal with 2:40 left in the game to put RIC ahead, 9-8. DeFlitch would add an insurance marker just 51 seconds later.
 
• Freshman goalkeeper Fiona Baxter (East Greenwich, R.I.) stopped seven shots in her first collegiate victory (1-1).
 
• Marley finished with two goals and one assist for three points to go along with five draw controls, five ground balls and six caused turnovers.
 
• Fifth-year defender Shannon O'Connell (Narragansett, R.I.) led the Anchorwomen with six ground balls.
 
• AMC freshman goalkeeper Danielle Collea (North Salem, N.Y.) made nine saves in the loss (0-3).
 
• The win stopped a 12-game losing streak for the Anchorwomen.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Salem State on Saturday, March 16 (1 p.m.).
