Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Midway through the first half, graduate student forward
Jonathan Oliveira (Providence, R.I.) looked poised to go in all alone on the Warrior's keeper after a long pass over the top, but he couldn't corral the bouncing ball and the opportunity passed.
Â
• After 45 minutes of play, each team had just one corner kick and Eastern Connecticut held the lead in shots, 9-6.
Â
• It was more of the same in the second half up until the 75
th minute, when ECSU freshman midfielder
Reid Dowling (East Lyme, Conn.) received a perfect cross and put it on goal from point blank range, but was thwarted by RIC junior goalkeeper
Jake Reed (Cumberland, R.I.) to keep the game scoreless.
Â
• Oliveira had another scoring chance in the 81
st minute as his shot ran across the goal line, but never crossed it.
Â
• As the match looked like it was heading for a draw, Oliveira took a breakout pass from freshman midfielder
Donovan Battle (Hudson, Mass.), dribbled around multiple defenders and put up a magnificent crossing pass to Granville, who headed it into the goal for what proved to be the game-winning strike.
Â
• Eastern Connecticut senior goalkeeper
Dylan Pallanck (Willington, Conn.) tallied three saves in the loss (2-3).
Â
• Reed put up five saves and recorded his first shutout of the season in the winning effort (3-1-2).
Â
• The victory for the hosts snaps a four-game winless streak for the club.
