Providence, R.I.--Jeanne D'Agostino played a critical role in the success of RIC Athletics during her almost 20-year tenure as the Executive Assistant to Athletic Director, but her husband, David D'Agostino, was much more significant to the intercollegiate athletic program than just that of a supportive spouse.
He was "totally" engaged in the intercollegiate athletic program and was generous with his time, assets and his support, especially when it involved student-athletes.
The Anchormen and Anchorwomen athletic teams are much better because of the legacy of Dave D'Agostino, who passed away late last evening.
Whether it was attending an athletic event, cheering on student-athletes, helping with a construction project, or delivering Jeanne's birthday cookies to staff, Dave was all in.
"I am devastated at Dave's passing and my heart is broken for Jeanne," Rhode Island College Director of Athletics Donald E. Tencher said. "They had an incredible love affair, most importantly with each other, but also with Rhode Island College. Dave was always looking for a way to help, and as people reflect on his passing, I am sure we will hear hundreds of stories of how Dave helped someone less fortunate or someone needing a hand."
"During our almost 10-year NCAA Tournament run in men's basketball and softball, I don't think Jeanne or Dave ever missed a game, at home or on the road. I will miss our candid and serious conversations about life, as well as humorous times when he would sneak in a hot dog that he probably shouldn't have been eating at a game. He was just an incredible human being who we loved and he will be missed."
Dave leaves behind the love of his life, Jeanne, their son Dave Jr., daughter Elizabeth and their granddaughter.
