Warriors Stop Anchorwomen's 18-Game Win Streak with, 66-56, Setback in Willimantic

Willimantic, Conn.--Sophomore guard Madison Medbury (Scituate, R.I.) flirted with a double-double as the Rhode Island College women's basketball team fell at Eastern Connecticut, 66-56, in a pivotal Little East Conference matchup on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Eastern Connecticut came to play, leading after the first quarter, 19-11, after eight strong points from graduate forward Anna Barry (Andover, Conn.).
 
• To open the second stanza, ECSU went on an 8-0 run, powered by four more points from Barry, to lead by 16, 27-11 with seven minutes left in the half. RIC was able to outpace the Warriors slightly to cut the deficit to 12 points, 37-25, at halftime.
 
• The hosts were able to match every shot the Anchorwomen hit for the remainder of the game. RIC was able to get as close as nine points to the Warriors on multiple occasions, but were unable to make a sizable dent in Eastern's lead.
 
• Medbury scored a team-high 17 points to go along with nine rebounds.
 
• Senior forward Izabelle Booth (Newport, R.I.) had 12 points for the Anchorwomen.
 
• Barry dominated with 28 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three blocks. Senior forward Mariah Dunn (Meriden, Conn.) registered a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
 
• Both teams are now tied for first in the Little East standings, with identical, 13-1, conference record. Both teams have beaten each other once.
 
• With the loss, the Anchorwomen's impressive 18-game winning streak has come to a halt.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East action at home vs. UMass Boston on Saturday, Feb. 11 (1 p.m.).
