Anchorwomen Down Buccaneers, 2-0

Buzzards Bay, Mass.--Sophomore midfielder Marissa Ruzzano (Smithfield, R.I.) netted the game-winner as the Rhode Island College women's soccer team earned their first win of the season with a 2-0 decision at Mass. Maritime on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Anchorwomen got on the board first after a Ruzzano penalty kick goal in the 33rd minute. It was her team-leading second goal of the year.
 
• RIC outshot the Buccaneers, 9-1, in the first half.
 
• The second stanza began with a bang when sophomore forward Riley Specht (Lincoln, R.I.) scored her first collegiate goal in the 57th minute. sophomore midfielder Serena Forte (Hope, R.I.) assisted on the play.
 
• The Anchorwomen would blank MMA for the remainder of the contest to earn their first win of the season.
 
• Senior goalkeeper Maya Benedict (Tempe, Ariz.) grabbed the win (1-4) and the clean sheet.
 
• Mass Maritime freshman goalkeeper Brady Deschamps (Brewster, Mass.) suffered the loss (0-3-2) in a 10-save effort. Sophomore Reagen Kerecz (Tolland, Conn.), a former Anchorwomen, saw 25 minutes of game action and made five saves.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will resume Little East action at Castleton on Saturday, Sept. 24 (4:30 p.m.).
