Perrotto Secures First Win of Season for Men's Soccer

Providence, R.I.--Sophomore goalkeeper Wesley Perrotto (Pembroke, Mass.) played 63 minutes of scoreless relief and stopped six shots as the Rhode Island College men's soccer team downed Nichols, 3-1, at Alumni Field on Saturday afternoon.

THE BASICS
Rhode Island College 3, Nichols 1
Rhode Island College (1-2)
Nichols (3-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Bison scored first in the 19th minute when freshman forward Brady Stevenson (Middletown, Conn.) and senior midfielder Nikolas Padilla (Worcester, Mass.) peppered the net with a flurry of shots.

• Stevenson took a shot that was saved by RIC junior goalkeeper Jake Reed (Cumberland, R.I.). Padilla then rebounded a follow-up shot that had hit off of the crossbar and Stevenson was home to knock the ball in and give the visitors a 1-0 advantage.

• RIC would even the game eight minutes later when sophomore midfielder Anthony Recinos (Providence, R.I.) lined up for a penalty kick after a foul in the box and beat Nichols' sophomore goalkeeper Franco Barreto Santana (Leominster, Mass.) in the 27th minute.

• Just before the first half concluded, the Anchormen set up for yet another penalty kick after an additional foul in the box. Senior forward Edward Pereira (Warwick, R.I.) converted the attempt for his first career goal.

• RIC would take that lead into the second half. RIC led in shots (10-9) after 45 minutes.

• The Anchormen weren't done scoring, however, as they netted their third goal in the 71st minute off of a free kick by sophomore midfielder Jesus Guarcas (Providence, R.I.).

• Recinos, Pereira and Guarcas each scored their first goals of the season.

• Perrotto came in for Reed in the 27th minute with the score tied and earned the win (1-0). He made six saves, while Reed made five before he exited.

• Barreto Santana made two saves and took the loss (1-1). Freshman goalkeeper Derek Axon (Foxboro, Mass.) played the second half and made five saves.

• The win marked the first collegiate win for RIC Head Coach Kyle Froberg.
