HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE
• UMB started the game scoring three unanswered runs over the first three innings, with junior second baseman
Aidan Blake (Lakeville, Mass.) parking a two-run homer.
• RIC would manufacture a few runs over the next couple innings, tying the game in the bottom of the sixth, 3-3. Freshman first baseman
Daniel Trzepacz (Mont Vernon, N.H.) stepped up in the bottom of the sixth and squeaked a single past Blake, which scored two and gave the Anchormen a 5-3 lead.
• Gamelin would come on in the seventh inning and shut the door, notching six strikeouts over three perfect innings to close out the win.
• Sophomore pitcher
Andrew Sears (West Warwick, R.I.) earned his seventh win of the year (7-1), while Gamelin picked up his second save.
• UMB junior pitcher
Alex Amalfi (Ashland, Mass.) was saddled with the loss (7-3).
GAME TWO
• The second game was a pitchers' duel until the top of the fifth inning, when a RIC error allowed two Beacons to cross the plate. UMB would add two more runs in the next inning, making the game 4-0 after the top of the sixth.
• In the seventh inning, with RIC down, 4-1, Trzepacz sent a ball over the fence to tie the game up, 4-4.
• However, in the top of the next inning, UMB junior shortstop
Gianni Zarrilli Jr. (South Glastonbury, Conn.) took back all momentum, hitting a two-run homer to give the visitors a 6-4 lead in the eighth inning.
• Each team would tack on a run in the frame, and with the bases loaded with no outs, UMB graduate pitcher
Josh Eastman (Marshfield, Mass.) only allowed one to score and saved the game for the Beacons.
• Gauthier took his first loss of the season (3-1).
• UMB sophomore reliever
Brendan Ferrari (Dunstable, Mass.) collected his third win (3-0), while Eastman got his sixth save.
BY THE NUMBERS
• Trzepacz went 3-for-7 with a home run, five RBI, three walks and a run scored.
• Sophomore center fielder
Cameron Santerre (Bristol, R.I.) scored five times today, giving him 59 for the season, which established a new program record for runs scored in a season.
