Penn State Abington Wins Slugfest vs. Anchormen

Winter Haven, Fla.—Sophomore first baseman Cal Parrillo (Greenville, R.I.) went 2-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored as Rhode Island College lost, 14-10, vs. Penn. State Abington in RussMatt Invitational action played at Chain O Lakes Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Nittany Lions built a 4-0 lead through the first four innings before the Anchormen roared back with an eight-run bottom of the fourth to take an 8-4 advantage. Sophomore shortstop Izaiah Rivera (Pawtucket, R.I.) knocked in two with a single as part of the outburst.
 
• Penn State took the lead back for good in the top of the fifth with a five-run effort. Senior third baseman Zach Morales (Barrington, N.J.) knocked in two with a single in the frame.
 
• Junior designated hitter Josh Baar (Burlington City, N.J.) knocked in two as part of a five-run seventh, which effectively put the game away for the Nittany Lions.
 
• RIC junior left fielder Joey Coro (North Providence, R.I.) went 2-for-5 with a pair of runs scored, two RBI and a homer (1).
 
• Penn State freshman center fielder/shortstop Chase Swain (Salem, N.J.) went 4-for-4 with four runs scored. Morales went 4-for-6 with five RBI.
 
• PSA freshman pitcher Ryan Hansbury (Turnersville, N.J.) earned the win (1-0), hurling 2.2 of scoreless relief.
 
• RIC sophomore reliever Aidan Ricciardelli (Branford, Conn.) took the loss (0-1).
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue RussMatt Invitational action vs. WPI at Lake Myrtle Main Field on Sunday, March 6 (1:45 p.m.).
