Rhode Island College (10-5-1)
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Wheaton sophomore designated hitter
Will Haskell (Natick, Mass.) singled in two runs in the bottom of the first inning to give the hosts a quick, 2-0, lead. RIC senior third baseman
Jarrad Grossguth (Coventry, R.I.) would cut that lead in half with a solo shot in the top of the next inning.
Â
• The Lyons would add three more runs in the second inning, until that output was again answered with a RIC longball, this time by Wheaton transfer Helfrich.
Â
• Both teams would continue to add runs, with Wheaton always holding at least a one-run advantage. With Wheaton up, 8-6, six in the top of the ninth inning, senior closer
Dom Cuhna (Lincoln, R.I.) came on to close the door and earn his second save of the season.
Â
• Helfrich went deep and finished 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Â
• Freshman designated hitter
Jeren Pimentel (Boston, Mass.) went 2-for-3 and scored twice, as well as causing havoc on the basepaths with two steals and forcing a few errors to create a couple runs for the Anchormen.
Â
• Helfrich, Grossguth and sophomore center fielder
Cameron Santerre (Bristol, R.I.) all went deep for the Anchormen.
Â
• Junior pitcher
Connor Davey (Cheshire, Conn.) hurled 6.1 innings and suffered the loss (2-2).
Â
• Lyons senior starter
Stephen Quigley (Halifax, Mass.) earned the win (3-1).
