Shannon O'Connell Scores Twice in, 19-5, Loss at Mass. Maritime

Buzzards Bay, Mass.–Junior attacker Shannon O'Connell (Narragansett, R.I.), RIC's starting goalkeeper, played the field and notched her first three collegiate points with a pair of goals and an assist, as the Anchorwomen fell at Mass. Maritime, 19-5, on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Mass Maritime opened up the first six minutes of the game by scoring six goals. The Buccaneers added another to end the quarter with a 7-0 advantage.
 
• Sophomore attacker Maddie Kross (Peachtree, Ga.) netted one to open up the second quarter and also got a goal early in the third stanza.
 
• O'Connell added three ground balls, one caused turnover and a pair of draw controls.
 
• Kross finished with two goals and scooped up three ground balls.
 
• MMA freshman attacker Lindsy Durgin (Rochester, Mass.) netted a game-high six goals.
 
• Buccaneer junior goalkeeper Aviva Beringhause (Providence, R.I.) stopped four shots and got the win (6-2).
 
• RIC sophomore goalie Olivia Brennan (Portsmouth, R.I.) was tabbed with the loss (0-1).
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will open Little East play at home vs. Western Connecticut on Saturday, April 2 (1 p.m.).
