Warriors Hand Anchorwomen First Conference Loss of the Season

Providence, R.I.--Junior guard Antonia Corsinetti (Johnston, R.I.) hit a clutch three to send the game into overtime, but Eastern Connecticut outlasted Rhode Island College, 60-57, in Little East women's basketball action played at The Murray Center on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• RIC, which trailed by eight, 27-19, at the half, stormed back to take a 36-33 lead with 1:15 left in the third quarter.
 
• The two teams traded leads in the fourth quarter, and with just seven seconds remaining in the game, Corsinetti hit a monster three-point shot to send the game into overtime with the contest tied at 50.
 
• Freshman guard Madison Medbury (Scituate, R.I.) made a free throw to pull the hosts within a point, 58-57, with five seconds left in the extra session.
 
• RIC intentionally fouled Eastern senior guard Julie Keckler (Trumbull, Conn.) on the inbounds play and she made both of her attempts from the charity stripe to give the visitors a three-point, 60-57, cushion.
 
• On the ensuing play, RIC senior guard Abby Phelan's (Norton, Mass.) half-court heave came up short to give the Warriors the win.
 
• Corsinetti finished with 10 points, three assists and three rebounds.
 
• RIC sophomore Ashanti Frazier (Newington, Conn.) registered a team-high 14 points to go along with six boards.
 
• The ESCU senior duo of Anna Barry (Andover, Conn.) and Keckler were impressive in the win. Barry had a game-high 24 points and 10 rebounds, while Keckler contributed 18 points, eight assists and four rebounds.
 
• The loss snaps a 13-game winning streak for the Anchorwomen and a 23-game winning streak against conference opponents.
 
 WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East action at UMass Boston on Saturday, Feb. 12 (1 p.m.).
