Castleton, Vt.--Senior defender
Steven Schmidt (Saunderstown, R.I.) netted his first career goal as No. 5-seeded Rhode Island College defeated No. 4-seeded Castleton in the first round of the Little East Men's Soccer Championship, 4-1, on Tuesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• RIC got on the board in the 11
th minute as Schmidt was able to capitalize off a corner kick from sophomore midfielder
Jesus Guarcas (Providence, R.I.).

• The Spartans answered in the 18
th minute when freshman forward
Gonzalaiz Arakaza (Burlington, Vt.) struck the equalizer with his fifth goal of the year.

• RIC took the lead right back a few moments later in the 20
th minute. Guarcas headed in a pass from senior midfielder
Brandon Ramos (Boston, Mass.) for what proved to be the game-winning goal.

st minute, sophomore midfielder
Christion Restrepo (Central Falls, R.I.) scored off of a pass by senior forward
Jonathan Oliveira (Providence, R.I.). Three minutes later, freshman forward
Tariq Adio (Providence, R.I.) scored the fourth and final goal of the day for the visitors. He was assisted by Restrepo.
