Frazier Leads Anchorwomen Past Western Connecticut After Emotional Pre-Game Family Reunion

Providence, R.I.—Sophomore guard Ashanti Frazier (Newington, Conn.) got a surprise visit from her mother prior to the Anchorwomen's, 69-46, win over Western Connecticut at The Murray Center on Monday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Frazier's mother, United States Air Force Technical Sargent Shanielle Copeland, recently returned home after a six-month deployment to Kuwait. Copeland donned the RIC Anchorman mascot costume and surprised Frazier following the starting lineup announcements. Click here to watch a video of the event.
 
• The hosts found themselves up by five, 15-10, after the first quarter. RIC would then embark on an 11-2 run through the first few minutes of the second quarter to go up by 14, 26-12, led by five points by junior guard Maci Dorantes (Bristol, Conn.). The Anchorwomen would take a 15-point, 39-24, lead into the halftime intermission.
 
• The Anchorwomen would coast to victory in the second half, leading by as much as 24 with three minutes left in the game.
 
• Frazier finished the day with 11 points, eight rebounds and a game-high six steals.
 
• Junior forward Izabelle Booth (Newport, R.I.) registered her first career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
 
• Senior guard Abby Phelan (Norton, Mass.) led the way in scoring for the Anchorwomen with a game-high 13 points.
 
• Western junior guard Ashley Rilley (Orangeburg, N.Y.) had 12 points and seven rebounds in the loss.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
• RIC shot 35 percent (27-for-77) from the field, 32 percent (7-for-22) from downtown and 62 percent (8-for-13) from the free throw line.
 
• WCSU shot 30 percent (15-for-50) from the field, 0 percent (0-for-9) from behind the three-point arc and 80 percent (16-for-20) from the charity stripe.
 
• RIC is now on a 10-game winning streak, won 13 of its last 14 contests and have won 20 straight games vs. LEC opposition dating back to last season.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East action at Keene State on Saturday, Jan. 29 (1 p.m.).
