HOW IT HAPPENED
• Senior forward
Rylee Nichols (Clarendon, Vt.) scored herself a hat trick, pushing her season total to six goals, and contributed an assist for a seven-point afternoon for the Spartans.
• Castleton took the lead in the 12
th minute when senior defender
Krista Girroir (Southwick, Mass.) fired a shot from just inside the 18-yard box that deflected off a RIC defender and past freshman goalkeeper
Reagan Kerecz (Tolland, Conn.).
• Nichols scored her first of the day, with what proved to be the eventual game-winner, on a strike in the 19
th minute.
• Senior midfielder
Julia Carone (Castleton, Vt.) scored just over a minute later to stake the Spartans to a 3-0 advantage.
• Junior defender
Ashlee Meczywor (Adams, Mass.) put a ball in the back of the net with a missile from about 45 yards out on a free kick. That was her first career goal in 24 games.
• Castleton went into halftime holding a slight advantage in shots (8-7).
• RIC got on the board early in the second half when freshman midfielder
Serena Forte (Hope, R.I.) broke free from the defense and crossed a pin-point pass to Amore, who then beat the keeper for her second goal on the year.
• Nichols completed the hat trick with markers in the 63

BY THE NUMBERS

Alex Benfatti (Gloverstown, N.Y.) made five saves to earn her fourth (4-2-1) win of the year.
• Kerecz stopped five in the loss (1-8).
• Castleton had five separate goal scorers, and four different players registered an assist.
• Castleton pulled away in shots during the second half, holding a 12-4 advantage, to finish the day with a 20-11 effort in that department.
• Amore scored her second goal in as many games.
