Forte and Gracia Lead RIC Past UMass Dartmouth for First LEC Win

Providence, R.I.—Freshman midfielder Serena Forte (Hope, R.I.) nabbed her first career multi-goal effort, while junior defender Audra Gracia (New Bedford, Mass.) also scored, as the Rhode Island College women's soccer team bested UMass Dartmouth, 3-0, at Alumni Field on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The first scoring opportunity came in the 14th minute as UMD freshman forward Amanda Renaux (Lakeville, Mass.) struck the crossbar on a penalty kick after a foul inside the 18-yard box, which kept the contest scoreless.
 
• Forte scored her third goal of the season in the 30th minute. Freshman goalkeeper Reagan Kerecz (Tolland, Conn.) cleared the ball the length of the pitch and found Forte behind the defense for the uncontested score.
 
• RIC led, 1-0, at the half with the Anchorwomen outpacing the Corsairs in shots (15-5).
 
• Gracia took advantage of UMD junior goalkeeper Kat Hubbard's (Haverhill, Mass.) failed clear attempt in the 68th minute as stole the clear out and connected on her first goal of the season.
 
• In the final minute of action, as the Corsairs were surging to try and get on the board, the Anchorwomen went on a breakaway that ended in Forte's second goal of the game and fourth of the season. Freshman midfielder Marissa Ruzzano (Smithfield, R.I.) and junior forward Alexandra Amore (Saunderstown, R.I.) picked up the assists.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
• Kerecz picked up both her first collegiate shutout and point as she made five saves for her second win (2-8) of the year.
 
• UMD freshman goalkeeper Jess Costa (Fall River, Mass.) took the loss (0-4) and made eight saves.  Hubbard played the second half and made seven stops.
 
• RIC led in shots (32-12) and corner kicks (3-1).
 
• It was the Anchorwomen's first shutout since Oct. 8, 2019 when they blanked Fitchburg State, 2-0.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East action at Plymouth State on Saturday, Oct. 2 (2 p.m.).
