Jayde Fernandes (Pawtucket, R.I.) led Rhode Island College with a pair of shots, which included a blue chip chance in the final minutes, as the Anchorwomen came up short vs. WPI, 2-0, in women's soccer action played at Alumni Field on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Engineers jumped out to a 1-0 advantage in the seventh minute when senior forward
Ranya Basma (Shirley, Mass.) converted a through ball from senior midfielder
Elizabeth Rocco (Fresh Meadows, N.Y.) for her second marker of the season.
• WPI tacked on an insurance goal in the 26
th minute when junior midfielder
Grace Casey (Winchester, Mass.) intercepted a RIC pass just outside the Anchorwomen 18-yard box and buried her second strike of 2021.
• The visitors took a 15-2 advantage in shots into the second half.
• The wasn't much offense by either club over the final 45 minutes, with both teams eventually trading chances in the final minutes before the Engineers secured their third win of the season.
BY THE NUMBERS
• WPI senior goalkeeper
Lauren Paul (Schaghticoke, N.Y.) made four saves to earn the shutout win (1-1).
• RIC freshman goalkeeper
Reagan Kerecz (Tolland, Conn.) stopped 11 in the loss (0-5). It was the second-highest save total of the season for her.
• WPI led in shots (23-5). The Anchorwomen held a slight lead in corner kick opportunities (2-1).
