Tyler Shemick (Foster, R.I.) threw eight strong innings, allowing just two runs, as No. 3-seeded Rhode Island College fell at No. 2-seeded Southern Maine, 2-1, in Little East Baseball Championship action played at Ed Flaherty Field on Thursday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Southern Maine took a 2-0 advantage in the home part of the second as senior second basemen
Andrew Olszak (Danvers, Mass.) led off with a single, stole second and came around to score on a freshman second basemen
Janek Luksza (South Paris, ME) double to the field left gap. Luksza then came home on a bunt single two batters later.

• Both starting pitchers found their groove as Shemick shut down USM over the next six innings, registering five strikeouts on the day. He allowed just two hits after the second inning in a losing effort (4-2).

Ben Lambert (Saco, ME) hurled a complete game for the Huskies in the win (6-1), allowing one unearned run on five hits to go along with six strikeouts.

Nick D'Ambra (Coventry, R.I.) to score in the top of the ninth to cut the host's lead down to one, 2-1.

• A wild pitch by Lambert with two on in the ninth moved both runners into scoring position, but he kept the visitors from equaling the score to earn his sixth win of the year.
