D'Ambra Helps Baseball Split With No. 7 Southern Maine

Gorham, Maine--Junior right fielder Nick D'Ambra (Coventry, R.I.) went 2-for-6 with four RBI and three runs scored as the Rhode Island College baseball team split a doubleheader at No. 7 Southern Maine (0-14; 10-0) in Little East action played at Ed Flaherty Field on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One:
• The Huskies bats were alive early as they struck for four runs on five hits in the home half of the first frame.
 
• RIC recorded their first hit in the second inning with a senior third basemen Ray Zincone (West Warwick, R.I.) single up the middle, but he was unable to come around to score.
 
• USM added another run in the second and added three more runs on four hits in the bottom of the third to build an 8-0 lead.
 
• USM used a huge sixth inning as they pushed across six runs on five hits and one error to take a commanding, 14-0, lead and end the contest after seven.
 
• USM senior pitcher Ben Lambert (Saco, ME) earned the win (3-0), allowing just three hits, while striking out six, in a complete game effort. RIC sophomore pitcher Seth Daly (Riverside, R.I.) took the loss (0-1).
 
• USM freshman designated hitter Cam Seymour (Saco, Maine) went 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI, while sophomore third baseman Jonathan Wilson (East Granby, Conn.) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
 
Game Two:
• RIC broke the scoreless tie in the top of the fourth frame when D'Ambra crossed the plate during a double play.
 
• RIC put another run on the board in the fifth on a freshman designated hitter John Willette (Johnston, R.I.) sacrifice fly that allowed freshman outfielder Cam Santerre (Bristol, R.I.) to score from third.
 
• The Anchormen bats got hot in the seventh inning as they pushed five runs across the plate on four hits, paced by a two-run D'Ambra triple, and took a 7-0 lead over the Huskies.
 
• The Anchormen pushed three more runs across in the top half of the ninth, highlighted by another two-run triple by D'Ambra, to finish the visitor's offensive output for the day.
 
• Senior pitcher Tyler Shemick (Foster, R.I.) allowed just three hits and struck out seven in seven innings of work.
 
• Junior relief pitcher Shaun Gamelin (West Kingston, R.I.) struck out three and did not allow a hit in two innings of work.
 
• D'Ambra went 2-for-4 with three runs scored, four RBI and two triples.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
• Willette went 2-for-6 on the day with two RBI, a double and one run scored.
 
• Zincone walked twice in game two and recorded two runs scored.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host a doubleheader vs. Southern Maine on Saturday, April 3, 2021.
