Providence, R.I.—Freshman attacker
Maddie Kross (Peachtree City, Ga.) scored five goals and assisted on another for a six-point effort as Rhode Island College dropped a 13-9 contest vs. Castleton in Little East women's lacrosse action played at Alumni Field on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Spartans built a 4-0 advantage as junior attacker
Aubra Linn (Hampden, Maine) scored three times and notched an assist in the first 8:16 of the first half.
• RIC outscored the visitors, 5-1, over the final 21 minutes as Kross registered a hat trick, senior midfielder
Hannah Ambrosia (Warwick, R.I.) tallied and freshman attacker
Ashley Rewers (Oakdale, Conn.) netted her first collegiate marker to tie the game.
• Castleton freshman midfielder
Kimberly McCarthy (West Sayville, N.Y.) capitalized on a turnover and scored with 21 seconds left to send CU into the halftime intermission with a one-goal, 6-5, lead.
• The Spartans scored four times over the first nine minutes of the second half to go up by five, 10-5.
• Kross and Ambrosia scored 41 seconds apart to cut the club's deficit to three, 10-7, but McCarthy scored twice and Linn added a dagger to put the game out of reach.

Shannon O'Connell (Narragansett, R.I.) tied her season-high with 14 saves in a losing effort (1-4).

Raven Payne (Cornwall, Vt.) stopped nine in the win (2-6).
BY THE NUMBERS
• Kross registered five draw controls. Ambrosia finished with two goals and one assist for three points to go along with four draw controls and two ground balls.
• Sophomore attacker
Jennie Fiano (Smithfield, R.I.) finished with a team-high six ground balls.
• Linn led Castleton with five goals and one assist for six points. Junior midfielder
Ryanne Mix (Pasco, Wash.) had one goal and two assists for three points and a team-best six ground balls.
• Sophomore midfielder
Lacey Greenamyre (Middlebury, Vt.) pulled down a game-high nine draw controls to go along with two goals, one assist and three ground balls.
• McCarthy had four goals and three ground balls.
• Castleton outshot RIC, 38-26. The teams were even in draw controls (12-12) and ground balls (23-23).
