Martinez Nets First Collegiate Goal and Soto Stops 11 in, 2-1, Loss vs. Corsairs

Dartmouth, Mass.--Freshman midfielder Ivelisse Martinez (Pawtucket, R.I.) scored her first collegiate goal as the Rhode Island College women's soccer team fell at UMass Dartmouth, 2-1, in Little East action played at Cressy Field on Thursday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
•  Martinez put the Anchorwomen on the board in the 12th minute for the first goal of her collegiate career.
 
• The Anchorwomen offense applied heavy pressure during the first half with 10 first half offerings.
 
• UMD responded before the half ended in the 40th minute when junior midfielder Kaitlyn Bernier (Dartmouth, Mass.) fired a shot into the net to draw even at one apiece.
 
• The second half action was even for both sides with 20 combined shots between the clubs.
 
• UMD capitalized off a second chance ball that found senior back Haley Dupre (Lakeville, Mass.), who then launched a shot into the back of the net in the 89th minute to capture the last-minute victory for the Corsairs.
 
• Martinez registered six shots on goal. Freshman midfielder Jayde Fernandez (Pawtucket, RI) recorded a game-high seven shots on goal for the Anchorwomen.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
• RIC freshman goalkeeper Giannie Soto (Cranston, R.I.) registered 11 saves in the loss (0-3).
 
• UMD senior goalkeeper Jaimee O'Brien (West Springfield, Mass.) recorded 13 saves in the win (1-1).
 
• RIC outshot UMD, 19-16.
