Castleton, Vt.--Freshman goalkeeper Giannie Soto (Cranston, R.I.) recorded four saves as the Rhode Island College women's soccer team fell to Castleton, 2-0, in Little East action played at Dave Wolk Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• RIC controlled the pace of play in the first half as they outshot the Spartans, 12-5, in the opening 45 minutes of action.
 
•  RIC held an advantage in corner kicks during the first half, 5-2.
 
• RIC had a golden opportunity to take a 1-0 lead in the 17^th minute of action when freshman forward Ivelisse Martinez (Pawtucket, R.I.) launched a shot that hit the post and was cleared by the Spartans' defense.
 
• Neither side was able to break the scoreless tie in the opening half.
 
• CU converted a penalty kick in the 72^nd minute as senior midfielder Julia Carone (Castleton, Vt.) put the hosts on top, 1-0.
 
• RIC was on the wrong side of a bad bounce as the ball deflected off an Anchorwoman defender and into the goal for an own goal in the 76^th minutes.
 
• Martinez tied for a team-high three shots on goal for the Anchorwomen. Freshman midfielder Jayde Fernandes (Pawtucket, R.I.) recorded seven shots and three on goal.
 
• Castleton junior goalkeeper Alex Benfatti (Gloversville, N.Y.) made eight saves to earn the shutout victory (4-0).
 
• Soto took the loss (0-4).
