Women's Lacrosse Falls at Western Connecticut

Danbury, Conn.--The Rhode Island College women's lacrosse team fell to Western Connecticut, 18-0, in a Little East Conference matchup at the Westside Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Anchorwomen were playing their first game in two weeks.
 
• WCSU junior attacker Dominique DeMarsico (Danbury, Conn) and sophomore attacker Alexa Riggio (Massapequa, N.Y.) each tallied hat tricks for the hosts. Senior attacker Caroline Galligan (Marshfield, Mass.) and junior attacker Brianna Pota (East Meadow, N.Y.) chipped in with two goals apiece.
 
• The hosts dominated play, outshooting the visitors by a 45-2 margin, while also holding a commanding edge in ground balls, 23-5. Additionally, WCSU was a perfect 12-for-12 on clear attempts, while forcing the Anchorwomen into 22 turnovers.  
 
• WCSU led, 11-0 ,after the first half.

• It was more of the same in the second half. WCSU junior attacker Brigid Schulenburg (Rocky Hill, Conn.) would round the count out at 18-0.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
• A trio of WestConn netminders combined for one save as sophomore Anna Schipf (Babylon, N.Y.) was credited with the win (3-0).
 
• RIC sophomore goalkeeper Shannon O'Connell (Narragansett, R.I.) took the loss (1-2) and finished with 14 saves. 
 
• RIC junior defender Amara Gibau (North Providence, R.I.) and sophomore attacker Ashley Rewers (Oakdale, Conn.) registered the two shots for the Anchorwomen.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East play at Southern Maine on Tuesday, April 13 (3:30 p.m.).
