Shion Darby (Peekskill, N.Y.) eclipsed the 1,000 career point mark with a 33-point effort as the Rhode Island College men's basketball team defeated Southern Maine, 90-81, in Little East action on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• With RIC up, 54-39, with 12:39 left to go in the contest, Darby went to the hole and scored, giving him 19 points on the evening, which officially made him the 34th player in RIC men's basketball history to reach the hallowed 1,000-point club.

• In the first half, Southern Maine held a 22-14 advantage over the Anchormen with a little over 12:30 to go. RIC exploded on a 29-5 run to end the half, thanks to 18 points from senior guard

• RIC was up by 16, 43-27, heading into the break.

• RIC would hold a firm advantage, around 20 points or more, through most of the second half. In the final minute, the Huskies went on an 11-0 run, but time was against the hosts, and the Anchormen held on for their second Little East victory.

• Darby finished with 33 points and five rebounds. He sits at 1,015 points for his career.

• Jacobs scored a career-high 36 points to go along with four rebounds and three steals.

• RIC shot 43 percent (32-for-75) from the field, 43 percent (12-for-28) from downtown and 88 percent (14-for-16) from the free throw line.

• Southern Maine shot 54 percent (31-for-57) from the field, 38 percent (11-for-29) from behind the three-point arc and 53 percent (8-for-15) from the free throw line.
