Keene State Hands Men's Basketball First Conference Setback

Providence, R.I.—Junior guard Shion Darby (Peekskill, N.Y.) poured in a game-high 37 points as the Rhode Island College men's basketball team fell, 99-79, vs. Keene State in Little East action played at the Murray Center on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Keene State was stellar on the offensive end and got 18 points from junior forward Jeff Hunter (Hudson, Mass.). The visitors went into halftime with a commanding 21-point, 53-32, advantage.
 
• Darby scored 24 of his 37 points in the second half, but RIC was not able to make up any ground on the Owls and suffered its first LEC setback of the season.
 
• Darby shot 14-for-29 from the field and also compiled three assists and four steals.
 
• Sophomore forward Jared White (North Plainfield, N.J.) contributed 11 points, three assists and two boards.
 
• Hunter posted a team-high 30 points to go along with a game-best 11 rebounds.
 
• KSU senior guard Jeric Cichon (Springfield, Mass.) scored 22 on 9-for-12 shooting. He also added six rebounds and seven assists.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
• RIC shot 44 percent (30-for-68) from the field, 35 percent (6-for-17) from downtown and 77 percent (13-for-17) from the free throw line.
 
• Keene State shot 63 percent (41-for-65) from the field, 14 percent (2-for-14) from behind the three-point arc and 53 percent (8-for-15) from the charity stripe.
 
• Keene State notched 37 assists on its 41 made field goals on the day. Four Owls had seven or more assists.
 
• Keene State outrebounded RIC 44-24.
