Jayde Fernandes (Pawtucket, R.I.) notched her second goal of the season as Rhode Island College fell, 5-1, vs. UMass Boston in Little East action played at Alumni Field on Saturday afternoon.

• The Beacons scored off freshman defender
Georgia Bonney's (Kingston Mass.) corner kick in the second minute as senior midfielder
Cal Pitts (Marshfield, Mass.) got behind the defense and tapped the ball into the net for her first goal of the season.
• The Beacons leading scorer, senior defender
Mary Jo Murphy (Worcester, Mass.), picked off a failed clearing attempt and fired her ninth strike of the year into an open net in the eighth minute.
• At the tail end of the half, the Beacons struck gold again, this time in the 38th minute with senior forward

• Both UMass Boston and RIC had open net scoring opportunities in the first half, but both squads failed to capitalize.
• Fernandes scored one of the more impressive goals of the afternoon in the 59th minute, launching a rocket into the top corner of the net from about 40 yards out.
• However, UMass Boston went right down the field and hit a near identical shot under a minute later. Senior forward
Grace Oliver (Rockland, Mass.) was the scorer on the play, with freshman midfielder
Maggie Kelley (Paxton, Mass.) picking up the assist.
• Palma grabbed her second assist of the game, while Murphy put away her second goal of the day and 10
th on the season in the 66
th minute.

Maria Spylios (Leominster, Mass.) made a diving save off an Anchorwoman free kick mid-way through the second half to keep the hosts from finding the back of the net.
BY THE NUMBERS
• Spylios made four saves in the win (7-2-2).
• RIC freshman goalkeeper
Reagan Kerecz (Tolland, Conn.) made seven saves in the loss (2-10).
• UMass Boston led in shots (24-17) and shots on goal (12-6), while RIC held a slight advantage in corner kicks (6-4).
