HOW IT HAPPENED
• RIC led by one, 2-1, after a freshman midfielder Madison McKenna (Cumberland, RI) free position goal with 18:01 left in the first half. The Wildcats scored the next three markers before a Fortin strike brought the visitors within one, 4-3, with 9:16 left in the stanza.
• Wheelock scored twice to take a 6-3 lead into halftime. The Wildcats held a 21-7 advantage in shots over the first 30 minutes.
• The hosts scored twice in the first 8:24 of the second half and led by five, 8-3, with 21:36 remaining. The Anchorwomen got goals from senior midfielder Taylor Theriault (Lincoln, RI), freshman midfielder Natalie Kulacz (Cumberland, RI) and sophomore midfielder Sondra Bouchard (Smithfield, RI), but saw the comeback bid come up short. RIC held a 15-8 advantage in shots in the second half.
• Fortin (2g) and Theriault (1g, 1a) led RIC with two points apiece. Wheelock junior midfielder Alexah Mellis (East Longmeadow, MA) led the hosts with four goals.
• RIC junior goalkeeper Julia Eaton (Cumberland, RI) made 16 saves in the loss. Wheelock senior goalkeeper Erin Sior (Shrewsbury, MA) made 11 stops in the win.
• The Anchorwomen held the advantage in ground balls, 10-9, while Wheelock led in shots, 29-22, and draw controls, 15-2.
