Brittany DeGrooth Scores Twice As Women's Soccer Falls To UMass Boston, 3-2, In Overtime

Boston, Mass.--Senior forward Brittany DeGrooth (Westerly, RI) scored a pair of goals as the Rhode Island College women's soccer team suffered a hard-fought, 3-2, overtime setback atUMass Boston in a little East Conference contest on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• RIC got on the board first when sophomore midfielder Brooke Young (West Warwick, RI) sent a pass to DeGrooth who then turned and buried a shot just inside the near post to put the Anchorwomen up, 1-0, in the 25th minute.

• DeGrooth's second goal of the game in the 37th minute came when she blasted in a shot to the far post after a feed from sophomore forward Soleil Galagarza (Pawtucket, RI) to make it 2-0.

• RIC took the two-goal advantage heading into halftime after outshooting UMass Boston by a 14-7 margin in the stanza.

• UMass Boston closed the gap to 2-1 in the 54th minute on a goal from freshman defender Mary Jo Murphy (Worcester, MA), who tapped in a crossing pass from sophomore midfielder Shannon Rosemond (Weymouth, MA) and senior forward Jaclyn O'Grady (Somers, CT).

• The host Beacons evened the game at 2-2 in the 79th minute as sophomore forward Lindsay Bouscaren (Cambridge, MA) scored with an assist by freshman midfielder Allie Crawford (Kingston, MA).

• Regulation would end with the score tied, 2-2, and send the game into a 10-minute overtime period.

• O'Grady scored the game-winner just 3:54 into overtime, connecting on a long pass from Crawford, to give the Beacons the 3-2 victory.

• Junior goalkeeper Erica Edwards (North Kingstown, RI) made nine saves (4-8-1) for the Anchorwomen in the setback.

• Freshman goalkeeper Caroline Richards (Duxbury, MA) notched four stops (4-1-0) for UMass Boston in the victory.

BY THE NUMBERS
• UMass Boston held the 21-17 advantage in shots, while each team had five corner kicks in the contest.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel to Fitchburg State on Wednesday, Oct. 24 (4 p.m.).
