THE BASICS
Rhode Island College 3, Wheaton College 1
Rhode Island College (9-10)
Wheaton College (8-12)
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Anchorwomen kicked it into gear, despite trailing 14-10, with a pair of service aces from junior outside hitter
Sarina Marines (Cranston, R.I.), which helped the hosts end on a 7-2 run and close out the first set, 25-18.
• RIC led for the majority of the second frame and was up, 22-12, at one point before the Lyons started to creep back into the set. The Anchorwomen would capitalize off a service error and attack error to win, 25-19, and lead 2-0 in the match.
• The third stanza came down to the wire, but it was Wheaton who prevailed, as an attack error and a bad set from RIC kept the Lyons alive and forced a fourth set with a 25-23 decision.
• A kill from the visitors in the fourth frame gave the Lyons a 20-18 advantage, but it was Williams with back-to-back winners which gave the hosts the momentum to take the match in four sets.
• Marines posted nine kills and 10 digs. Sophomore middle hitter
Olivia Rollinson (Coventry, R.I.) pitched in with seven kills.
• Junior setter
Yuleisy Alvelo (San Juan, Puerto Rico) handed out 20 assists, while classmate libero
Carolyn Bailey (Ipswich, Mass.) had a monster effort defensively with 19 digs.
